A letter, written by Mahatma Gandhi,on January 19, 1948, is part of a collection of manuscripts put up for auction at the famous auction house Christie's in London. The auction of the letter-which could possibly be the last before his death-has upset the Indian Government.

The auction was held by the Christie's on Monday evening and the highest price of 720,000 pounds went for Syed Haider Raza's La Terre (1985).
